Are you searching for a job for the first time in years? Find out what has changed about the job search, and how you can help ensure your own success.

Transcript

If you're job searching for the first time in many years, you'll find the rules have changed considerably. Many companies now primarily post jobs and search for candidates online. So spend time learning how these sites work.

Here are a few tips:

  • Your resume will probably be screened to spot critical key words and phrases, so customize your resume to play up skills they're seeking.
  • Make sure your cover letter highlights your strengths and cites specific instances where you've helped the bottom line.
  • Set up alerts to get an email when appropriate new jobs are posted.
  • Be cautious when posting personal information because aggressive marketers sometimes troll these sites for leads.

Bottom line: Boost your chances by studying online job search technology.
