Reducing the Pain of Budgeting
Discover how you can make budgeting work for you, no matter what your financial situation and goals.
Transcript
Budgets are like diets: No single approach works for everyone and it may take a few tries to get it right. Don't think of a budget as a punishment, but rather, as a way to achieve your goals, whether those goals are to buy a house, pay for college or retire early. If you're new to budgeting or haven't been successful in the past, start slowly. For a few months write down every cent you spend – everything from snacks to gas to rent. You'll be shocked, I promise.
If you're breaking even or losing money each month, you either need to find additional income or aggressively alter your spending habits‐or both.
Bottom line: Don't let a few budgeting setbacks get in your way as you work toward your financial goals.
