It's Penny Pinching Patriotism with American July 4th Spending Down 12%

A new survey released by Visa Inc. shows Americans are cutting back significantly on their spending for 4th of July activities this year, with spending dropping 12% to an average of $191, compared to $216 in 2011. Surprisingly, 21% of Americans say they are not going to celebrate the 4th of July this year, in any way With economic concerns continuing to linger, Americans reported they were spending less on Independence Day related travel, food, beverages, entertainment, fireworks and other items.
