Ben S. Bernanke - Chairman, Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System

Ben S. Bernanke was sworn in as the Chairman and member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in February 2006. In addition to this prominent post, Dr. Bernanke also serves as Chairman of the Federal Open Market Committee, which is a monetary policymaking body of the Federal Reserve. Dr. Bernanke also held the title of the Chairman of the President's Council of Economic Advisers from June 2005 to January 2006. He has held both a Guggenheim Fellowship and a Sloan Fellowship, and he is a Fellow of the Econometric Society and of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

His vast and noteworthy teaching career spans some of the country's most prestigious universities including: Princeton University where he was the Class of 1926 Professor of Economics and Public Affairs; Stanford University where he was an Associate Professor of Economics at the Graduate School of Business; as well as New York University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he served as Visiting Professor of Economics. Dr. Bernanke received a B.A. in economics in 1975 from Harvard University (summa cum laude) and his Ph.D. in economics in 1979 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is married with two children.
