Personal Finance Journalist
Maya Fisher-French started in the journalism industry approximately 10 years ago when she moved from working in the investment world to reporting on it. Before that, she was employed at stock broking firm BJM Private Client Services and Investec Private Bank during which time she obtained her BA honors degree in Economics.
Maya's first journalism appointment was at national daily newspaper This Day, where she soon positioned herself as a senior journalist reporting on banking industry topics. She is passionate about personal finance issues and this has become her main beat. She was the editor of the personal finance supplement for This Day before the publication closed. After This Day closed, she continued with freelance journalism assignments. Maya still works in a freelance capacity with permanent contracts. She was the official editor of the Mail & Guardian Money section, has created her on website – Maya on Money and is currently editor of "My Money, My Lifestyle" the personal finance section for City Press. Maya is exceptionally knowledgeable of the banking industry and has a wide understanding of the issues at play. She will always get to the bottom of a story and at the same time, she will always write a fair article. Maya is also a recipient of the "Best Newcomer" in the Sanlam Financial Journalist of the Year award.
