Paula A. Cox has been a lawmaker for the governing Progressive Labour Party, Premier and Minister of Finance for 13 years.
In November 1998, she was appointed as the first PLP Minister of Labour, Home Affairs and Public Safety. Three years later on November 1, 2001, she was appointed to Minister of Education and Development. In 2004, Cox received an honorary Doctorate in Education at the Wheelock Commencement exercise. More recently, she was made an Honorary alumnus of Dalhousie University in 2009.
Cox took over the Finance portfolio from her late father, the Hon. C. Eugene Cox, CBE, JP, MP, in January 2004. Her skills as an articulate lawyer and administrator have earned her respect across party lines.
